At 19:00 p.m. on April 28, 2021, college of International Education invited Dai Rongrong of Shanghai Jiaotong University and ruanjunbin of Shanghai Medical College of health to hold an online lecture for the students studying in our college.The lecture themed“Being Gentle As a Jade” spread Chinese culture by presenting jade culture. The lecture was bilingual and interactive to flexibly help students understand it, exuding the great charm of cultural exchanges in the perspective of evolving liberal arts.
This lecture began in the perspective of "Being Gentle as a Jade", and told the story about its history. "Jade" was used to describe the beautiful stone worn on the waist of a king, and then it was extended to represent the beautiful stone for a king's decorative objects. Jade was served for ancient royal family, and jadewares were usually engraved with royal symbols (usually the“Taotie”pattern in early days). From the perspective of health, the lecturer expressed that there is a saying in China: nourishing a jade by wearing it can calm his or her mind and body; nourishing a jade inside can make people indifferent to fame and fortune, and achieve further. The lecturer mentioned that jade has its integrity as a symbol of courage which has a long history.At this end, The lecturer had a communication with the international students according to this subject and let the international students to discuss Chinese jade culture. International students are very interested in the lecture content and express their preferences for Chinese culture.
