Shanghai Business School (SBS), formerly known as East China Branch of Tax Administration School of the Central Government (founded in 1950), is a public application-oriented undergraduate institution with a distinctive focus on business studies. Since its founding, it has always adhered to a “business-rooted and application-centered” education philosophy, and upheld the school motto of “virtuous, erudite and socially responsible”, striving to cultivate high-quality application-oriented business talents with professional attainment, practical ability, innovative spirit, international view, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The College of International Education is a functional department responsible for the enrollment and management of international students in China, and a teaching unit directly managed under SBS. It mainly undertakes the teaching and research of Chinese language and Chinese culture courses for international students in China. The college first started to enroll international students in 2007, and so far it has enrolled international students from more than 70 countries and regions, including the US, Germany, Russia, Australia, the Netherlands, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and South Korea. Over the past few years, the college has gradually enlarged its scale of international students, and increasingly enriched its teaching forms. The college actively develops all-English specialties and courses, and energetically improves the quality of international student training, aiming to create a richly layered international student training system.
The MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) (hereinafter referred to as “ Shanghai Training Base”) is one of the first batch of four training bases for international business officials in China, and also the only training base for international business officials in the Yangtze River Delta region. With the merger of Shanghai Business Education & Training Center as a whole into SBS in 2016, Shanghai Training Base was incorporated into SBS as well.
In January 2021, the College of International Education and the Shanghai Training Base were co-located for the convenience of handling official affairs jointly. The purpose was to improve the quality and efficiency of international student education through integrating the high-quality resources of the two institutions.
The college is composed of 5 departments, i.e., the Administration Office, the Logistics Department of the Base, the Project Department of the Shanghai Training Base, the Office of International Student Affairs and the Office of Business Chinese Teaching and Research. Currently it has a total of 23 teaching and administrative staff members, including 2 with a senior professional title and 19 with a Master degree. The staff team is young and 15 of them are below 40 years old.
The college attaches great importance to the education of international students and the training of international business officials. By actively serving national strategies and vigorously developing a professional, branded, and international training base for international business officials, the faculty aims to train outstanding messengers of cultural exchanges, build a bridge of friendship between China and foreign countries, and contribute to the building of SBS into a high-level, application-oriented, innovative, and international business school.
