Seminar on Green Development and International Cooperation for Developing Countries Successfully Launched

On the afternoon of October 11, the opening ceremony of the Seminar on Green Development and International Cooperation for Developing Countries, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by the MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) at Shanghai Business School, was successfully held. The event was honored by the presence of Chen Wei, Deputy Director of the MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai), and Ms. Zhu Ting, Associate Professor of the School of Economics of Shanghai University, both of whom delivered insightful speeches.

In January 2023, China State Council released a white paper on “China’s Green Development in the New Era”, which summarized the practice and effectiveness of green development over the past decade and called for solidarity and cooperation among countries. China’s active promotion of green and low-carbon development not only plays a significant role in its own economic transformation and high-quality development, but also contributes to global governance. The white paper reaffirms China’s determination to build a community of shared future for mankind together with other countries. Focusing on green development and international cooperation, the seminar aims to promote cooperation among countries in the fields of green technology and sustainable economy through sharing successful experiences with developing countries, so as to make a global joint response to environmental challenges and realize a mutually beneficial and win-win green transformation.

Speech by Mr. Chen Wei

Chen Wei stated in his speech that China has gained rich experience in new energy and green development and has already joined hands with the world to advance sustainable development. He noted that the seminar seeks to share insights from China’s green development and promote green economic growth in developing countries. It will deepen participants’ understanding of China’s green development practices through classroom instructions and field trips. Additionally, it aims to establish a platform for exploring China’s green development initiatives, thereby fostering cooperation among countries in the realm of green development.

Speech by Ms. Zhu Ting

Zhu Ting pointed out that various ecological and economic challenges has flooded the world, where technological progress is enveloped by the aggravation of environmental problems. Under this background, China is committed to developing green economy and advancing scientific and technological progress, aiming to solve global problems. It is believed that this event can fully deepen the thought in the field of academic research and broaden the participants’ perceptions of the current Chinese society. She hoped to take this opportunity, together with participants from other countries, to explore the path of green development and realize sustainable prosperity.

Speech by a Participant Representative

On behalf of all the participants, Ms. Felica Emrobowansa Ohwofasa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, State Government of Nigeria, also representative of the participants of the seminar, firstly expressed her gratitude to the sponsor and the host of this project. Then she emphasized that green development is not only the key to economic growth, but also a way to realize social equality and sustainability. In conclusion, she hoped that all participants can cherish the opportunity of drawing on China’s practical policies and experiences in green development, so as to provide new ideas and inspirations for the green development of this own countries.

The seminar will last 14 days and is attended by 24 participants from 9 countries, including Ethiopia, Jordan, Mauritius, Moldova, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda. According to the arrangement, they will visit Fuzhou, Fujian Province for study tour.
