creation date:2025-09-20

On the morning of September 19th, the Brazilian New Energy Industry Cooperation Training Program, organized by the Ministry of Commerce and hosted by SBS, conducted a field visit to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University——State Power Investment Corporation Smart Energy Innovation College (hereinafter referred to as the “Smart Energy Innovation College”). The visit featured in-depth exchanges focusing on smart energy technology innovation, academic development, and China-Brazil cooperation. There are 23 officials from 12 Brazilian institutions in the delegation, including the Civil Office of the Presidency, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the National Electric Energy Agency, and the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant. Han Dong, Vice Dean of the Smart Energy Innovation College, Associate Professor Li Kangping from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Liu Bin, Dean of the International Education College of our university and Director of MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai), along with others, attended the visit.

Exchange session during the visit

During the event, Han Dong extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Subsequently, Li Kangping delivered a specialized presentation on the Smart Campus Platform. This project adopts a “3+3+X” overarching framework, encompassing three energy system infrastructure construction projects: the installation of photovoltaic power generation systems, the application of heat source heat pumps, and the upgrade and expansion of the power distribution network. It also includes three forward-looking research platforms: the Smart Energy Digital Platform, the Virtual Power Plant Simulation Platform, and the DC Microgrid System. He stated that, building upon the “3+3” platform development, the college plans to initiate more “X” feasibility study projects in the future, covering various new energy technologies, aiming to create a world-leading smart energy demonstration campus.

The exchange session was dynamic, with Brazilian participants actively posing questions, focusing particularly on the scientific research and educational collaborations between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Brazilian universities. Ricardo, Head of Energy Transition from the Civil Office of the Brazilian Presidency, began his remarks by congratulating the Smart Energy Innovation College on its scientific research achievements in the new energy sector. He emphasized that energy transition is a critical pathway for achieving sustainable development. The Brazilian government highly values and strongly desires to deepen cooperation with the Chinese government, enterprises, and universities, especially in expanding practical collaboration in areas such as clean energy technology, industrial innovation, and talent cultivation, to jointly advance energy structure transformation and green, low-carbon development.

Interactive exchange of participants

The training program participants also conducted on-site visits to multiple demonstration sites within the smart campus, including the Energy Plaza Battery System, the SJTU Smart Energy Digital Platform, and the Energy Laboratory. The participants showed keen interest in the related technologies and engaged in profound discussions with Chinese experts regarding the systems' operational principles and application prospects.

This visit provided the Brazilian participants with an in-depth look into China's cutting-edge energy technology innovations and practices, fostering experience sharing and mutual learning between China and Brazil in key areas such as clean energy innovation, policy coordination, and digital energy systems. The inspection further solidified the foundation for bilateral cooperation in the green energy sector, paving the way for future high-level industry-education integration projects, expanded research collaboration, and talent cultivation partnerships between China and Brazil.
