On the afternoon of August 28, 2025, the College of International Education, leveraging the “Business Charm Silk Road” brand, organized international students from Shanghai Business School to participate in an online summer travel city sharing and exchange event. This event aims to enhance international students’ understanding of China by introducing popular summer travel cities in the country, painting a vivid and uniquely charming picture of life in China for them.

Three highly representative cities—Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an—became the focus of this sharing and exchange event. Beijing, an ancient capital with an over-3,000-year history, carries a profound historical legacy and serves as China’s political and cultural center. Shanghai, as China’s economic hub and an international metropolis, is known for its distinct blend of local and Western cultures. The various historic buildings along the Bund witness the passage of time, contrasting with modern skyscrapers like the Oriental Pearl Tower on the opposite shore, together creating a magnificent city skyline. Xi’an, formerly known as Chang’an, is one of China’s Four Great Ancient Capitals, with a long history and profound cultural heritage. The event not only introduced the unique landscapes of different cities but also provided detailed descriptions of local culinary cultures. For example, Beijing’s roast duck, zhajiang noodles, and douzhir (Fermented Soybean Milk) and fried dough rings reflect the authentic flavors of old Beijing; Shanghai’s small steamed meat-filled buns, Pan-Fried Baozi Stuffed with Pork, and pork ribs with rice cakes are mouthwatering specialties showcasing the city’s distinctive tastes; Xi’an’s roujiamo (a.k.a. Chinese hamburger), Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup, and cold noodle rolls are full of northwestern charm. In addition, to help international students improve their Chinese proficiency, the sharing and exchange event included training with phrases and short sentences to expand the students’ Chinese vocabulary related to these cities.

This summer travel city sharing and exchange event is not only a vivid practice of Shanghai Business School’s international students’ participation in the “Business Charm Silk Road” brand development within the field of cultural exchange but also a concrete action by Shanghai Business School to use brand development as a link to build a bridge for mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. As one of the key components focusing on cultural immersion within the “Business Charm Silk Road” brand system, this event deeply aligns with the core concept of “using business as a medium, fostering cultural understanding, and connecting the Silk Road.” Moving beyond a single mode of knowledge transmission, it employs a multi-dimensional content design of “cityscapes + culinary culture + language learning,” allowing international students to tangibly experience the texture of Chinese culture through immersive participation, thereby achieving a profound leap from knowing China to perceiving China.
