To help the new international students of the Class of 2025 adapt to their study and life in China, clarify their academic goals, enhance safety awareness, and establish lofty ideals, the College of International Education of Shanghai Business School recently organized a series of freshman orientation activities under the theme of “Setting Sail and Pursuing Dreams in SBS”. This orientation covered multiple dimensions, including dormitory management, student affairs, academic administration, and campus safety. The comprehensive and well-focused content laid a solid foundation for the new international students to begin their academic journey in SBS.
The orientation began with an opening lecture titled “Setting Sail and Pursuing Dreams in SBS”, delivered by Mr. Chen Wei, Secretary of the directly affiliated Party Branch of the College of International Education, to all new international students. In a cordial and engaging manner, Secretary Chen Wei introduced the university’s history, educational philosophy, and internationalization strategy, relating them to China’s development in international education and the distinctive characteristics of Shanghai Business School. He encouraged the students to harbor great aspirations, set clear learning objectives, cherish the valuable opportunity while studying in China, diligently pursue professional knowledge, actively participate in social practices, and achieve comprehensive development and growth through the integration of knowledge and action. “I hope you will not only be recipients of knowledge but also bridges and envoys for cultural exchange between China and other countries,” Secretary Chen Wei expressed in his heartfelt message. He emphasized that the university always adheres to a “student-centered” philosophy, providing comprehensive support and services for every international student, helping them build, pursue, and realize their dreams on the fertile ground of SBS.

Subsequently, staff from the International Student Office conducted systematic thematic sessions on daily student management and campus life. During the dormitory management segment, they detailed the regulations for international student apartments, the use of living facilities, and requirements for maintaining a civilized dormitory environment, guiding the new students to jointly build a safe, clean, and harmonious living space. The student affairs section focused on introducing student registration, daily conduct codes, and the scholarship and financial aid system, helping students fully understand their rights and responsibilities during their studies. The academic administration part provided detailed explanations on curriculum design, course selection procedures, academic assessment, and academic integrity, encouraging students to plan their academic path scientifically. Furthermore, the university’s Security Department strengthened the new students’ safety awareness through case studies and emergency drills, covering fire safety, transportation, and response to emergencies, thereby solidifying the campus safety defense line.

This orientation not only helped the new international students integrate into campus life quickly but also conveyed the university’s deep care and high expectations for them. New students from various countries expressed that they would keep the teachers’ advice in mind, cherish their study time, strive to enhance their professional competencies and cross-cultural communication skills, and write their own brilliant chapters in Shanghai Business School.
