Seminar on Management and Application of Modern Rail Transportation for Developing Countries Completed Successfully

On the evening of May 26, the Completion Ceremony of the Seminar on Management and Application of Modern Rail Transportation for Developing Countries was held online. This Seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai). Ms. Liu Beimin,a researcher from Division of International Economic Cooperation of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Mr. Gong Lian ,Deputy Dean of China Railway Shanghai Design Institute Group Co., LTD. and Mr. Chen Wei, Deputy Director of the MOFCOM Training Base(Shanghai),attended the Ceremony and delivered speeches.

The Seminar involved 96 participants, who are government officials and experts in the filed of modern rail transportation from 19 countries, including Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Philippines, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Turkmenistan, Egypt, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Ghana, Nigeria, Dominica, Panama, Brazil, Morocco and Chile.

Organized online, the Seminar was arranged with the special lectures on “urban railway planning and characteristics”, “China’s national conditions”, “Shanghai rail transit construction and planning”, “knowledge and experience sharing of COVID-19 prevention and control”, “modern rail transit communication”, “development status and prospects of information and signal system”, “planning and design of modern railway logistics bases”, “the status and development of multi-standard rail transportation”, “China’s high-speed rail strategy” and others, as well as the cloud visits to CHINT (Shanghai) and West Yiwu Railway Logistics Base, which have deepened the participants’ understanding on China’s basic national conditions and China’s research achievements and practical experience in modern rail transportation management and application.

On behalf of all the participants, Mr. Angel Salvador Tejeda Cuevas (Deputy Minister of Ministry of Public Works of Dominican Republic) delivered a speech. He believes that urban rail transit is an effective way to solve traffic congestion in developing countries. He highly praised and expressed heartfelt thanks to China, an internationally leading country in urban rail transportation, for its generosity in sharing its achievements with other countries and making cities and even the whole world better. Associate Professor KEIN HUAT CHUA (Tunku Abdul Rahman University, Malaysia) also expressed his recognition of China’s work on behalf of the participants, and he called on the participants to apply what they have learned and grow themselves into the backbone forces for the development of their own countries’ urban rail transportation.

The participants expressed their gratitude for this training opportunity and highly praised the achievements of this Seminar, saying that through this Seminar, they have gained professional knowledge, improved practical ability, and broadened their horizons in related fields. What is more precious is that they have deepened their understanding of Chinese culture and the Chinese people, and look forward to visiting China after the pandemic and extending their friendship with China.
