Seminar on Financial Cooperation for Spanish-Speaking Countries Kicks Off

On the morning of May 28, 2021 (GMT+8), the Opening Ceremony for the Seminar on Financial Cooperation for Spanish-Speaking Countries was held online. This Seminar was sponsored by Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai). Mr. Liu Rutao,Vice President of Academy for International Business Officials, Mr. Duan Weihua,Deputy Division Chief of Academy for International Business Officials, Mr. Chen Feng,Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ecuador, Mr. Dong Wei Counselor of the Embassy of the P.R. China in Colombia, Mr. Ji Xiaofeng,Counselor of the Embassy of the P.R. China in Chile, and Mr. Chen Jianfeng,Vice President of Shanghai Business School, attended the Opening Ceremony and delivered speeches. Attendants of this Ceremony also included Mr. Chen Wei,Executive Vice Dean of the College of International Education of SBS and Ms. Dai Ying,Vice Dean of the College of International Education of SBS.

Mr. Liu Rutao pointed out that after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, all countries have suffered from financial recessions and additional financial risks to different degrees. Upon making joint efforts, China and Latin American countries have fought against the pandemic together and deepened cooperation, allowing the China-Latin America community with a shared future to bear ripe fruits in the adversity. Organized by the Chinese government, the Seminar is designed to share with Latin American countries China’s experience in the formulation and implementation of financial policies, the financial system reform and the model innovation, hoping to provide some useful experience for the countries to break out of the pandemic impacts and get out of the financial risks, further consolidate the foundation of financial cooperation between China and Latin American countries, and boost the community to a new height.

Mr. Chen Feng hopes that the Seminar would allow better exploration on the potential for financial cooperation between China and Latin American countries, provide suggestions and connections for further financial cooperation, and thus facilitate the economic recovery of all countries in the post-pandemic period.

Mr. Dong Wei suggested that after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, global social stability and economy have been significantly affected. While enhancing the exchanges and cooperation between China and Latin American countries, the Seminar would allow the participants to learn more about China and to carry out in-depth research and discussion in the field of financial cooperation.

In Mr. Ji Xiaofeng’s speech, he indicated the long-term achievements in trade between China and Chile, especially the trade rise during the pandemic. Besides, he fully affirmed the significance of the Seminar and wished a success.

Mr. Eduardo Alfredo Arias Wilgas (Director of Products and Policy of the Development Bank of Ecuador B. P.) delivered a speech on behalf of all the participants. He praised China’s powerful measures in fighting against the pandemic, and China’s impressive and selfless assistance to Ecuador and other developing countries. He thanked China for the Seminar preparations and looked forward to gaining knowledge and experience in the Seminar.

Mr. Chen Jianfeng expressed that China has always cherished friendship and cooperation with Spanish-speaking countries, and is willing to work closely with and support each other with the participating countries to improve exchanges and cooperation in various fields, especially in the financial field, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind. He sincerely hoped that all participants and friends would use the Seminar as a platform to share the advanced experience accumulated in financial cooperation, discuss the bottlenecks and problems encountered in this field, and jointly cope with the new environment and challenges.

The 14-day Seminar involved 105 participants from Paraguay, Panama, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Venezuela, Uruguay and Chile. The Seminar aims to implement the Belt and Road initiative for financial cooperation, promote financial exchanges between China and Spanish-speaking countries, and introduce new dynamics into the win-win financial cooperation between China and Spanish-speaking countries.
