Seminar on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Management in Latin America, Caribbean Countries and South Pacific Region Organized by Our University Kicked Off

On the morning of August 19,2021(GMT+8), the Opening Ceremony for " Seminar on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Management in Latin America, Caribbean Countries and South Pacific Region " hosted by Ministry of Commerce and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) was held online. Ms. Liu Beimin, Researcher with Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Ms.He Ying, Vice President of Shanghai Business School (SBS) and Mr. Chen Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the College of International Education of SBS attended the opening ceremony.

Ms. Liu Beimin pointed out that during the China's economic development, the large number of SMEs are summarized as "a new force in national economic and social development"and "an important force to expand employment, improve people's livelihood, and promote entrepreneurship and innovation." It plays an important role in promoting reform, adjusting structure, benefiting people's livelihood, and preventing risks. She hopes to take this opportunity to show more about the innovative development history of Chinese SMEs, exchange experience and ideas in SME Management field, and further enhance exchanges and cooperation among SMEs.

Ms. He Ying said that our university has made adequate arrangements based on the needs of participants from different countries and regions. We will progressively use the three major sections of real scene display, expert explanation, and Q&A discussion to shared China’s knowledge, ideas, experience and practices in this field with participating officials from the SME management and practice, the development opportunities for SME and foreign investment. So as to provide reference for participating developing countries, learn from each other, discuss the bottlenecks and problems encountered, and jointly cope with the new environment and new challenges.

Mr. Inocencio Palacios, former Deputy Minister of Finance of Paraguay, delivered a speech on behalf of all the participants. He said that SMEs in developing countries play an important role in the social and economic transformation. The epidemic COVID19 has brought unexpected challenges to SMEs in Latin America, Caribbean countries and South Pacific. He hopes that through the Seminar, they can learn about the advanced concepts and experience of Chinese SME management to promote the development and cooperation of SMEs in their countries.

The Seminar will last for 14 days and 142 officials from 7 countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela will participate in the training.
