According to the needs of Shanghai's epidemic prevention and control work and the specific arrangement of the university, the International Education College immediately activated the emergency response mechanism and fully transferred to online teaching. During this period, all colleges and departments cooperated with each other and all teachers and students worked closely to actively cope with the situation and overcome the difficulties together to ensure that the daily teaching and student management services were smooth and orderly under the situation, and strive to minimize the epidemic impact on the education.
Respond calmly and ensure teaching
The International Education College informed teachers of online teaching at the earliest opportunity and reminded them to take their materials and be prepared to teach in the closed school or at home. The college quickly made proper arrangements and promptly informed students of the updated online teaching methods such as Spoc and VOOV through the WeChat group, and repeatedly helped them to adapt to the changes in teaching platforms. The college has held several academic meetings and departmental meetings to make specific arrangements for epidemic prevention and teaching, ensuring that online learning is carried out in an orderly manner.
In order to ensure the quality of online teaching, the International Education College immediately launched special supervision, conducting a comprehensive inspection of the teaching platform, teaching methods, teaching process, teaching effectiveness and student feedback, covering 25 independent courses and some courses for drop-in students. Students reported that the online teaching was generally in smooth order.
The university leadership attached great importance to the online teaching situation of international students, convened the working meeting in time, summarized the experience and shortcomings as soon as possible, put forward effective improvement measures for the problems, and continuously optimized the mode and effect of online teaching.
Care for students actively
In order to fight this battle without smoke and mirrors, the International Education College entered into a state of preparation in advance and convened international students to hold an emergency online meeting at the first time to deploy work related to the prevention and control of the epidemic. The college firstly implemented the "daily report" system for international students in China. After confirming the residence information of domestic students in Shanghai, the college carefully conducted a detailed analysis of the information on the location, closure status and health condition of each student, and improved the "daily report" system, requiring students to report the relevant information to the college by "daily check-in". At present, the reporting rate of "Daily Report" has achieved 100%.
The College held an epidemic prevention and control meeting in a timely manner and informed students of the basic requirements and gestures of Shanghai epidemic prevention and control, especially the management requirements for entering and leaving the university during the closed and quasi-closed periods and the requirements for online teaching, and strengthened the publicity and education for students, asking them to actively cooperate with the university and the local community in the prevention and control of the epidemic.
The class teacher (counselor) strengthened the humanistic care for the international students, regularly understands their study, life and health status through telephone and WeChat, and timely grasps the students' ideological dynamics and public opinion status, properly guide students who have difficulties in life or emotional distress due to the closed community management, and ensure the stability of students.
Saydaliev, a freshman student from Uzbekistan, lives in Songjiang district. On the 10th of March, the district government closed his community due to the epidemic investigation. After learning about the situation, the college contacted the student. He said: The Shanghai government is very concerned about the health of its citizens. He did twice nucleic acid tests and there was no problem. Now the residential area is open again, and residents are also entering and leaving the area normally. He hoped to return to university and meet with teachers and classmates as soon as the epidemic is under control.
To enrich the extra-curricular life of international students studying at home, the college actively organized online activities. On the afternoon of March 22, the college organized them to participate in the online exchange and sharing session of the Four Great Classics of China, in which domestic and international students exchanged opinions together, enriching their spare time during the epidemic period and bringing the distance between them closer. The College is currently preparing for the follow-up activities.
The epidemic has no mercy, but the people have. The International Education College and the second-level colleges will work together, under the leadership of the university, to do a good job in the prevention and control of the epidemic, ensure the normal order of education and teaching, and strive to achieve a double victory in the prevention and control of the epidemic among international students and the education and teaching work.
