On March 19th 2023, a group of nearly 90 international students from more than 30 countries enjoyed a Shanghai tour organized by the International Education College. This tour aimed to impress international students with the charm of Shanghai in the early spring days, help them know the city culture and further understand the progress that China has made since the reform and opening up, and integrate them better into local life and study.
The first stop of this tour was Chunzhi Contemporary Porcelain Museum where all artworks of porcelain display the abundance of the cultural heritage. Each of them is an artistic and aesthetic masterpiece that holds a large amount of business value. As a promotion center of the Chinese porcelain culture, the Museum has provided visitors with a hands-on opportunity. From ceramic casting to molding and coloring, they were fascinated by the aesthetics of Chinese porcelain. They got to know more about the stories of the Ancient Silk Road and how Chinese craft men were committed to pursuing perfection in their artworks and therefore deeply admired the Chinese culture.
Later, they went on to Fengpu Four Season Ecological Garden and Jinhai Lake. The former was planned and designed by Shanghai Xian Dai Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd. and is considered the “Downtown Abbey in Shanghai”. Jinhai Lake, also known as Shanghai Fish, is a landscape located in the new town of Fengxian District. The students got to know the development and planning of the new town as well as the green urban planning in Shanghai.
This tour is a part of the sightseeing plan to deepen international students’ understanding of the city and Chinese culture, and more importantly, to increase their connections with China. Cultural education has been a key task for the cultivation of international students. The International Education College will continue to improve its education system to foster more high-quality and professional talents and build itself into a more internationalized institution.
