SBS College of International Education Successfully Held the Campus Preliminary Competition of the 4th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for International Students

On March 11, 2024, the College of International Education of Shanghai Business School successfully held the campus preliminary competition of the 4th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for International Students. The competition aims to improve international students’ linguistic performance, stimulate their learning enthusiasm, spread the excellent Chinese culture through telling Chinese stories, promote the innovation of talent cultivation mode, and improve the quality of international student education.

 Presentation of the Competition Rules

With the theme of “Fortifying Cultural Confidence & Enhancing International Understanding”, the competition attracted 15 international students from different grades and majors to compete on the same stage, fully demonstrating the multicultural integration and development at SBS.

During the competition, each contestant first made a self-introduction. They skillfully integrated rich Chinese elements, such as Chinese scenery, customs, characters, achievements, art and spirit, etc., and showed their understanding and perception of Chinese culture from unique perspectives and in vivid expressions. During the Q&A session, contestants, leveraging their strong language skills and adaptable nature, presented their insightful responses to the judges’ questions in a clear and concise manner. The contestants were required to deliver their speeches without notes, which tested their expressive ability, and even reflected their in-depth knowledge and unique insights of Chinese culture.

Prize-Awarding Ceremony

The judging panel consisted of four rigorous and fair-minded teachers, i.e. Dai Ying, Zhang Ximing, Sun Maohua and Li Zixi, who scored the contestants according to their on-the-spot performances, and finally awarded 1 special prize, 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and several encouragement prizes.

For the outstanding contestants who won a third or higher-level prize, SBS will set up a team of instructors to provide special training and help them achieve further success in the 4th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge.

With the awarding ceremony, the campus preliminary competition of the “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge concluded successfully at SBS. It ignited international students’ enthusiasm for Chinese language, and provided an important stage for them to interpret Chinese stories and promote Chinese culture, contributing to the cultivation of goodwill messengers who know, befriend with and love China.
