On June 21, General Secretary of CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping wrote back to the international students of Peking University, encouraging them to learn more about the real China, introduce their ideas and experiences to more people, and play an active role in promoting people-to-people bonds of all countries.
Xi Jinping's reply caused a warm response from both teachers and international students of our college. It is generally believed that the reply reflects the deep concern of CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core for the education of international students, and it also demonstrates the central government’s determination and confidence in the opening up of higher education, which has pointed out the direction for our future work and will encourage us to play an active role of the education as a carrier of learning, exchange and cooperation. Everyone highly approves of Xi Jinping's suggestion that " Seeing is believing.". Only let the international students witness it with their own eyes that they can have more ideas and experience, and become excellent envoys who can promote exchanges between countries and between people.
Mr. Chen Wei, Executive Vice Dean of our college, considered that Xi Jinping's reply further clarifies the goals and tasks of international student education. He said that our college should make efforts in faculty construction, curriculum construction and teaching mode reform, in order to let the students have a deeper understanding of Chinese society and development, thereby promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. Ms. Dai Ying, Vice Dean of our college, emphasized that we must continue to strengthen the advantages and make up for the weaknesses in the future work, as well as comprehensively strengthen the connotative development. She said that through the combination of First-Class, Second-Class and Third-Class, Chinese stories and voices would be spread to international students, which would contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to the world. Mr. Zhang Ximing explained that the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics is getting wider through the facts that CPC leads Chinese people to open up, develop the economy, eradicate poverty, fight against Covid-19 and improve lives of people who make up a quarter of the world's population. Ms. Shen Lanxin said that if we want to truly understand a country, its people and its culture, we should go there to learn its customs. In the past few years, she has deeply experienced and understood the difference between "see" and "unseen" from her foreign affairs work. Ms. Zhang Ruyi said that international students’ life in China needs everyone's care, therefore Xi Jinping's concern is a heart-warming action for them.
International students from different colleges of our university also expressed their feelings after reading Xi Jinping's reply. Li Ke, a Rwandan international student majoring in food quality and safety from College of Hotel Management, said that CPC is a political party that serves the interest of people and it is a very great political party, Chinese people feel very happy under the leadership of CPC. The student also told us: “I hope that our international students, whether now in China or have already returned to their home country, can tell the local students about the culture we have learned in China." Jin Junying, a South Korean international student majoring in marketing from College of Business Administration, said that due to the government's rapid response, China has gotten rid of the epidemic’s impact and is now supporting other countries, all the South Korean students, including him, hope that the epidemic will end as soon as possible so that they can return to China.
The teachers and students of our college learn from Xi Jinping’s reply to share their insights and exchange experiences. It is believed that in the near future, it will become a reality to be able to let international students to visit China and learn more about the real China.
