On the morning of October 26, 2021(GMT+8), the Opening Ceremony for "Seminar on Infrastructure Construction for Panama" hosted by Ministry of Commerce and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) was held online. Ms. Liu Beimin, Researcher with Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Mr. Chen Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the College of International Education of our university attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Liu Beimin pointed out that Panama is an important trading partner of China in Latin America. Our economies are highly complementary and have great potential for trade cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral friendly cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results under the active promotion and joint maintenance of the two governments. After the opening of the China-Panama direct route, bilateral exchanges have become closer, which creates conditions for expanding the depth and breadth of bilateral cooperation.In this context, the holding of this Seminar is conducive to exploring new areas of infrastructure cooperation, further demonstrating the achievements of Shanghai's reform and opening up, sharing experience and ideas and exploring business opportunities for international cooperation.
Chen Wei introduced the preparations for this Seminar. Considering the needs of Panama, our university has invited experts and scholars from Shanghai Construction Engineering Group Corporation, Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute, Tongji University, and Shanghai Maritime University. They will share with the participants their practical experience and research results in this field, and discuss the ideas and concepts of China's urban development and urban-rural planning system, urban road planning and construction, green construction technology, port and shipping project management and construction, and urban rail transit planning ideas through real-life displays, explanations, and Q&A discussions.
Joaquin Bernardo Palacio Gonzalez, head of the construction engineering department of the Ministry of Social Development of Panama, thanked China for the preparations. He said that being able to participate in this Seminar organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Shanghai Business School together with architects, engineers and related professionals will not only contribute to personal professional growth, but will also help formulate relevant policies for his country, so as to contribute to the improvement of his country's infrastructure construction planning and construction level.

The Seminar will last for 14 days and 28 officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Panama, the Construction Engineering Department of the Ministry of Social Development, JGR Construction Company and other related departments of infrastructure planning and construction will participate in the training.
