In order to continuously promote the high-quality and connotative development of the construction of demonstrative English courses for international students, the College of International Education took the lead in organizing the acceptance review meeting of the 2021 Shanghai Business School University-level demonstrative English courses international students construction project on July 7 in combing online and offline way. Ouyang Meihe, Director of International Exchange Office of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Zeng Fenyu, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Shanghai Electric Power University, and Chen Yili, Director of International Students Office of Tongji University attended the meeting as review experts. Five course leaders from the College of Finance and the College of Hotel Management of SBS, as well as relevant personnel from the International Students Office of our College attended the review meeting, which was hosted by Dai Ying, Deputy Dean of our College.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice Dean Dai Ying introduced the participating experts and clarified the course acceptance process, the key points and standards.
In the course answering session, Chen Junping from the College of Finance and Economics reported his course "Behavioral Finance", elaborating on the construction objectives, specific planning, and construction progress, and also made relevant suggestions for the future direction: firstly, to strengthen the construction of faculty team; secondly, to prepare teaching materials suitable for international students; thirdly, to further enrich the network resources and teaching database. Wang Xiaoping from the College of Finance and Economics reported her course "Investment". Her teaching team has changed the teaching methods, such as integrating case teaching, testing, reporting, etc. It has reformed the evaluation method and adopted process evaluation; encouraged teachers to participate in various training; improved and enriched teaching content; promoted international exchanges; carried out school-enterprise cooperation, etc. Chen Peimin from the College of Hotel Management, on behalf of Zheng Minrong, reported to the experts on her course "Real Estate Finance", including course content, course outline, case studies, course assignments, classroom problems, course videos, etc., as well as the specific content, case studies, and course videos. Wang Aihua from the College of Finance gave a detailed introduction to the course materials and related online learning resources of her course "Financial Engineering". She focused on sharing the teaching contents and teaching methods used in her construction course, including increasing research content, encouraging students to learn independently, and conducting lectures and group discussions on case teaching. Wang Rui from the College of Finance and Economics reported her course "Quantitative Analysis" from teaching materials, teaching environment, teaching contents, and teaching methods. In terms of teaching materials,she chose the bilingual version of Quantitative Investment Analysis; in terms of teaching environment, she used the university's training center to build a new financial intelligence learning factory; she optimized and reconstructed the teaching content to integrate the actual situation of Chinese market into the case study; for online lectures, she innovated the teaching method, set up online discussions, collided ideas and improved the academic expression of international students.
In the questioning session, Ouyang Meihe, Director of International Exchange Department of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Zeng Fenyu, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Department of Shanghai Electric Power University, and Chen Yili, Director of International Students Office of Tongji University gave affirmation and made relevant suggestions on the construction results. The experts agreed that the teachers had made great efforts to build the curriculum and that it was successful and informative. Regarding "Behavioral Finance", experts believe that since there is currently no standard textbook in China, it is recommended that teachers refer to domestic and foreign textbooks to prepare teaching materials. Regarding the "Investment", experts believe that the teaching results are rich, and it is recommended to combine industry, academia, and research as much as possible, and add teaching content suitable for international students. Regarding the "Real Estate Finance" course, experts believe that it is necessary to pay attention to the learning effectiveness and ability improvement to form a quantitative indicator. In terms of teaching, it is necessary to further refine the teaching methods, teaching characteristics, and teaching effects. Regarding "Financial Engineering", experts believe that the construction goal has been accomplished, but it is necessary to improve the effectiveness of education, encourage Chinese students and international students to form teams to participate in the competition, and at the same time enhance the radiation effect of curriculum construction and build a curriculum group. Regarding the "Quantitative Analysis", experts believe that the person in charge is well-prepared, but the teachers of curriculum construction should think accordingly about the mathematical operations involved in the teaching process.
After the report, the experts voted collectively on the course review and agreed that all five courses passed the acceptance, among which the course "Quantitative Analysis" was more outstanding and recommended as excellent through. "Behavioral Finance" uses the original textbook and PPT, which lacks secondary creation and needs to be integrated with creative contents to inspire students; "Investment" is a solid course construction, which is integrated with university-enterprise combination, but the effectiveness of internationalization needs to be further improved; "Real Estate Finance" basically completes the task, but needs to further improve the construction of the course website; "Financial Engineering" is basically completed, and the original textbook and PPT used are recommended to be improved accordingly with the characteristics of international students, so as to improve the pertinence and applicability of the courseware and related cases.
Finally, Deputy Dean Dai Ying summarized the curriculum construction review meeting. She said that the curriculum construction for international students is an important support for the connotation construction of the university and the systematic improvement of education for international students, as well as an important grasp for the work of international students during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which helps the university steadily expand the enrollment scale of international students and better serve the overall goal of the university's education opening to the outside world. The acceptance meeting is not only a summary of the construction of the 2021 exemplary English courses for international students in SBS, but also an important guidance from the experts to the international student education of SBS. Our College will also convey the guidance suggestions from the experts to the course leaders and encourage them to further align with the requirements, which will also provide new momentum for the international development of our university.
The successful holding of this meeting not only strengthened the construction of the English-taught demonstration courses for international students, but also laid a foundation for the continuous promotion of high-quality and connotative development of international students in China and the implementation of the university's international talent cultivation.
