Director Ding launched the training on three topics: firstly, the role and mission of working staff responsible for international students in the new era; secondly, the ability and quality of international student counselors; and thirdly, the work responsibilities of international student counselors. She pointed out that the building of the Community with a Shared Future for Mankind proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping is an important strategic idea at present and an important guideline for our work. The counselors/class teachers are the organizers, practitioners and instructors of ideological and cultural education and management. In addition to undertaking responsibilities as teachers, they should care about, serve, and help international students grow, and more importantly, guide international students to correctly understand the development trend of the world and China. They must also fully understand their responsibilities at work and continuously improve their abilities, so as to better carry out related work.

At the meeting, the counselors/class teachers from the second-level colleges also discussed the problems encountered in the management of international students and communicated with Ding, such as: how to overcome language barriers, how to overcome cultural differences, how to carry out class meetings according to the characteristics of international students and other related issues. Ding, combined with her years of work and practical experience, gave highly-targeted suggestions and tips about the ways of working and precautions to the participants in a simple way.

The training session not only improved the ability and quality of international student counselors/class teachers, but also strengthened the communication between the College of International Education and the second-level colleges, and it further laid a solid foundation for building a professional international student management team.
