According to the “Notice of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on Announcement of the List of Demonstrative Courses Taught in English for International Students in Shanghai Universities in 2021” (Shanghai Education Commission Foreign [2022] No. 36), The “Investment” and “Finance” by Wang Xiaoping, Associate Professor of the College of Finance and “International Finance” by Guo Raofeng of our university were awarded the title of “English-taught Demonstration Courses for International Students in Shanghai Universities”.
In July 2021, the College of International Education started the application of English-taught demonstration courses for international students according to the relevant notice of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. In October 2021, our university officially declared five courses to the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and recently learned that three of them were approved. It is reported that a total of 80 courses from 25 universities, including Fudan University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, have been approved for this title.
In order to implement the spirit of the “Opinions on Accelerating and Expanding the Opening-up of Education in the New Era” by the Ministry of Education and other seven departments as well as the relevant requirements of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on the construction of English-taught demonstration courses for international students, our university has always attached great importance to them. In terms of curriculum construction, since 2020, we have actively carried out the cultivation of English-taught demonstration courses for international students at the university level. The College of International Education has taken many measures to promote the development of English-medium courses for international students through expert reviews, lectures, seminars and other means. Through more than two years of hard work, the cultivation of English-taught Demonstration Courses for International Students has begun to bear fruit, not only achieving a breakthrough, but also a historic leap forward with three courses receiving this award at the same time.
In the future, the College of International Education will continue to take English-taught courses and professional construction as an important starting point for the development of international students’ education, so as to promote the reform of courses and majors. At the same time, English-taught courses and professional systems can be constructed in a planned and step-by-step manner in advantageous disciplines and characteristic professional fields, so as to promote the connotative development of our university’s international education, tell Chinese stories in world languages, and carefully create our school-running characteristics and highlights, laying a solid foundation for the active implementation of the international talent training.
