On October 25th, College of International Education organized a one-day cultural experience trip, “Experience China, Explore Shanghai”, for 75 international students from Belt and Road countries such as Uzbekistan, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The trip aimed to guide the students in closely experiencing the excellence of traditional Chinese culture and the charm of the modern metropolis through immersive city exploration, thereby further solidifying the brand connotation of “Study at SUIBE—Business Charm along the Silk Road”.
In the morning, the students visited Chuansha Ancient Town in Pudong. This historic and culturally renowned town, with a history of a thousand years as formed land, four hundred years of town construction, and two hundred years as a county, has long been known as the “Coastal Giant Town” and the “Root of Pudong’s History and Culture”. At heritage sites such as the Ming Dynasty ancient city wall relics, the former residence of Huang Yanpei “Neishidi”, and the Chuansha Construction Museum, the students immersed themselves in the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage like Shanghai Opera and Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo music. They appreciated the cultural and tourism landscape where “the ancient and the modern coexist”, genuinely perceiving Shanghai’s profound historical context and its open, inclusive urban spirit.

In the afternoon, the group proceeded to Chongming Changxing Island Park. As a national 4A-level tourist attraction, a selected Chinese sports tourism destination, and a national green camp for youth nature education, the park vividly exemplifies the green living concept of “micro-travel and light vacation” with its ecological landscapes spanning thousands of acres, including orange groves, rose fields, lotus gardens, and dendrobium gardens, as well as its avant-garde research and sports bases. The students relaxed in nature, strengthened friendships through interaction, and deepened their understanding of the “Beautiful China” ecological civilization development.
This “Experience China” themed activity not only broadened the cultural horizons of the international students but also enhanced their emotional identification with Chinese civilization. The College of International Education consistently adheres to serving the national strategy for opening up education, taking the brand building of “Study at SUIBE—Business Charm along the Silk Road” as a crucial means to promote cultural exchanges and people-to-people bonds. It continuously strives to create a cultural immersion platform that is “perceptible, participatory, and communicable”, helping more international students progress from “Experiencing China” to “Understanding China” and “Sharing China’s Story”.
