Seminar on Management of International Engineering Projects for Sri Lanka Organized by Our University Kicked Off

On the morning of August 11,2021(GMT+8), the Opening Ceremony for " Seminar on Management of International Engineering Projects for Sri Lanka " hosted by Ministry of Commerce and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) was held online. Ms. Liu Yue, First Secretary of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka, Ms. Liu Beimin, Researcher with Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Mr. Chen Wei, Executive Vice Dean of the College of International Education of SBS attended the opening ceremony.

Ms. Liu Yue pointed out that China and Sri Lanka have built a number of iconic projects in Sri Lanka through intergovernmental cooperation, corporate investment and project contracting, which greatly improved Sri Lanka’s infrastructure conditions and demonstrated the fruitful achievements in infrastructure interconnection under the Belt and Road initiative. In this context, the holding of the Seminar is conducive to the discussion of new areas of infrastructure cooperation between the two countries, thus providing a strong impetus for the economic recovery and sustainable development of Sri Lanka after the Covid-19 epidemic.

Ms. Liu Beimin expressed her warm congratulations on behalf of the organizer and the Municipal Commission of Commerce. She said that in the context of the epidemic, this Seminar is a pragmatic move to implement the consensus of the leaders and promote the exchange of civilizations and economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Shanghai has made many attempts and practices in exploring the management of high-density mega-city engineering projects. She hopes to take this opportunity to show more about the achievements of Shanghai's reform and opening up , exchange experience and ideas in this field, and explore business opportunities for international cooperation.

Mr. Chen Wei introduced the preparations for this Seminar. Based on the needs of Sri Lanka, our university invited experts and scholars from Shanghai University, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Rail Transit Design and Research Institute, Shanghai Construction Engineering Group and other units. They will use the three major sections of real scene display, expert explanation, and Q&A discussion to introduce China’s national conditions, the prevention and control of Covid-19, and Chinese culture in addition to the professional classes.

Ms. Ratnavasanthy Jeyabaskar, Chief Engineer for Sector plan Regional support center East National water Supply and drainage board thanked China for the preparatory work for this Seminar. She believes that through learning and drawing on China’s ideas and practices in international engineering project management , she will definitely be able to develop new ideas in this field, so as to apply what she have learned, and contribute to the improvement of the national engineering project management level.

The Seminar will last for 14 days and 27 officials from the Sri Lanka National Water Supply and Drainage Commission and Irrigation Bureau will participate in the training.
