On the morning of November 25th, 2021(Beijing time), the Seminar on Trade Promotion and Trade Remedy for Latin American Countries sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and undertaken by the MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) of Shanghai Business School ushered in the online opening ceremony, attended by Ms. Liu Beimin ,Researcher of Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, Mr. Yao Weiqun,Executive Dean of the Shanghai International Trade Center Strategic Research Institute, and Mr. Chen Wei ,Executive Vice Dean of the College of International Education of Shanghai Business School.
Looking into the development prospects between China and Latin American countries, Ms. Liu Beimin indicated that the trade volume between China and Latin America has exceeded USD 300 billion for three consecutive years, and a total of 19 Latin American countries have signed cooperation agreements with China to jointly build the Belt and Road. Under the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the gratifying results have fully demonstrated the resilience of China-Latin America economic and trade relations and enterprises’ full confidence in China-Latin America economic and trade cooperation. She hopes that the participating officials can take the opportunity to deepen pragmatic cooperation and boost national economy and trade development to a new height.
Mr. Chen Wei introduces the preparations and training arrangements for this Seminar. Specifically, Shanghai Business School has arranged lectures, “cloud investigation”, “cloud experience” and national conditions courses, aiming to further expand the communication and exchanges in trade and develop various forms of mutual benefit cooperation between China and Latin American countries, to benefit the world with the fruits of the Belt and Road initiative, and to provide new opportunities for better well-being of the people in China and Latin American countries.
Mr. Yao Weiqun analyzed the key areas and priority directions of China-Latin America bilateral trade, bilateral investment, and economic and trade cooperation from the professional perspective of trade promotion and trade remedy. He said that Latin America and the Caribbean are among the regions with the world’s top potential for development. At present, China-Latin America relations with strong resilience and vitality have entered a fast track of development. He hopes that this Seminar can bring greater business opportunities to companies from all countries.
Mr. Ivan Antonio Masucci, a researcher from Universidad Nacional Arturo Jauretche, Argentina, delivered a speech on behalf of all the participants. He believes in the self-evident importance of a country in local development and social inclusion, and mentioned that China is undoubtedly a fundamental participant in the world economy. He expressed that, through the Seminar, they will gain a deeper understanding of China’s ancient culture, and learn China’s advanced experience in relevant fields, thus providing new solutions to and ideas for their domestic trade problems.
The 14-day Seminar involved 33 government officials and business executives from 6 countries including Panama, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay and Argentina.
