Solidly advance key tasks and earnestly maintain the order of running school —Our university held the end-of-semester international student management work meeting

In order to complete the international student management at the end of the semester, the College of International Education took the lead to organize an online working meeting on the morning of May 27th. Vice President He Ying, the deans in charge of international student work in each college, the counselors of international students in each college, the teaching secretaries and relevant personnel from our College attended the meeting, which was presided by Vice Dean Chen Wei.

The meeting informed the general situation of the current work and the work tips for the next stage.Vice Dean Dai Ying of the College of International Education  introduced the works recently in six aspects: focusing on system construction and developing relevant documents, ensuring teaching operation and building an online platform, implementing teaching plans and strengthening communication, ensuring teaching quality and promoting feedback on lectures, doing well in student management and enriching activity forms, expanding publicity channels and improving enrollment work. The key points of the next work stage were exchanged, focusing on student management, teaching management, and enrollment. It was proposed that student management should focus on summer safety education, actively promote the evaluation of Shanghai International Students Government Scholarship and Shanghai Business School International Student Scholarship, and implement the management of the final exam and the filing and inspection of teaching documents. She said that the ongoing enrollment work also requires the cooperation and support of all colleges.

The meeting conducted a discussion on the revised Emergency Response Plan for International Students of Shanghai Business School. The person in charge of the International Students Office introduced the main contents. Vice Dean Chen Wei pointed out that there are three changes in this revision compared with the original plan: firstly, refining the types of emergencies; secondly, clarifying the work system and the work responsibilities of the leading group and the working group; thirdly, further refining the response mechanism and disposal content of the emergency plan. He proposed that emergency reports should be responded quickly, the responsible persons for various emergencies should be identified, and they should be on duty as soon as possible, and information reporting should be comprehensive, truthful and timely.It is pointed out that the emergency plan is focused on prevention, and the daily management and service work should be done in a practical and detailed way. The deans in charge of teaching in the second-level colleges also put forward suggestions in terms of structure layout, content optimization and text expression.

The demonstration training of the online teaching system was carried out at the meeting. Manager Zhu Zhongfei of Shanghai Telecom Internet Education Center introduced the online learning platform tailored for international students in our university. The platform takes Learnin learning management service platform as the portal and Classin teaching platform as the core, which realizes the two-way connection between online teaching data and daily management data.

Online Education Platform Introduction

Vice Dean Chen Wei pointed out that from the overall trend, online teaching has become a widely used method in international higher education. Online teaching is not simply relocating the classroom to an online conference system, but requires a reconstruction of concepts, standards and means, and a perfect learning platform as support, thus standardizing the teaching process, improving the monitoring of learning, optimizing quality assurance and improving teaching quality.It is hoped that through the platform, the data of both teaching and learning will be further collected, so that the teaching process can be recorded, monitored, counted, and restored. The statistical analysis of teaching data can provide a decision-making basis for teaching activities and promote the digital transformation of international education.

The deans in charge of international students of the colleges put forward relevant opinions and suggestions from the perspectives of the standardization, effectiveness and integrity of the use of the platform. The participants also fully exchanged their opinions and thoughts on other aspects such as talent training plan, curriculum setting, training for class teachers and counselors, and graduation thesis guidance.

In the end, Vice President He Ying summarized the meeting. She pointed out that despite many emergencies such as the epidemic, the overall work of international students was still carried out in an orderly manner.She responded to several points discussed in the previous exchange session, including the need to strengthen the coordination in the promotion of the management model, the scientific and continuous development of the talent cultivation program, the standardization of thesis guidance for graduates, and the prospective declaration of model courses for international students. Then she laid out the next phase of work from five aspects, including: firstly, the final work to ensure the completion and implementation of various teaching tasks and exam-related work; secondly, concerning the employment arrangement of international students and understanding the employment intention; thirdly, enrollment and publicity work; fourthly, student education, reminding attention to epidemic prevention and safety to ensure stability; fifthly, implementing the summer work in strict accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention and control.

The meeting not only strengthened the communication among the departments involved in the management of international students under the background of the epidemic, but also further clarified the key tasks and time schedule of the work, laying a solid foundation for the promotion and the implementation of the university’s international talent training.
